With Apologies for the Lack of News on the Postal

Yes, I've been very quiet about the postal - my only excuse is time. April is always a difficult time for me, and this year there's been both a new job and my son's wedding to cope with too, together with the slight technical problem of Blogger no longer posting directly to the site. I've now caught up though and the results are available here.

As usual, I've split the Junior and Senior sections into Standard and Elite leagues to give the up and coming some encouragement. Just a quick word about how we do this... At the end of the competition the scores are printed out with out any names etceteras, and the point separation is calculated for each position. I then look for a fairly significant gap about the middle of the field - over the years we've noticed that it is always there! That gap is where the leagues are split - simples.

Well done to one and all - there were some cracking scores in the last 2 months - Kristian Jones is especially worthy of mention, only dropping 4 points in his last 4 cards.

2 Months in to the Postal

Another month has gone by (hands up those who blinked) and the competition is hotting up. Congratulations to David Sainsbury, Paul Quilliam, and Gareth Abbott who share the honours for the first 49's of the competition - will we see a perfect 50 next month? The pistol shooters are putting up some cracking scores too, there's a cracking 48 from Sean Testrow but Matt Barnes stole a march on him with a pair of 46's. See the full results here.

January Postal Results Now Available

The team have scored all the cards, I've captured them, the software's done its stuff and the results have been published. High score so far is a 48 from our own Joe Corkerton, but there's a good few 47's snapping at his heels. There's some cracking scores from the Juniors too - watch out Seniors, you got some competition brewing! Where have you come? Find out here.

January Postal Cards Deadline Extended

In view of the adverse weather conditions we had at the beginning of the month, the deadline for the receipt of January's cards has been extended by a week. I will accept January cards up to Saturday 6th February (If this is still a problem for you, please get in touch)

Liphook Postal Entry

Well, I've finally collated the entry list for the postal, I think it's our biggest entry yet! Please check your entry here.

Please note that the bt.com email address will close within a week or too - fortunately the scrolin.org.uk address is active again, if you need to contact me please use

Finally, can I make one request to all team leaders - if you bought the cheap targets that the NSRA had on sale at the National Championships please do not use them for this competition. The reason they were cheap is that the card they were made from is substandard, and the shot holes will be difficult to score fairly, especially given the volumes we'll have to deal with this year.

A good days shooting was had by all 60 entrants. Results are available here.

The field has been booked for the same weekend next year (still awaiting confirmation from Mellow Farm Adventure)

Belated Postal Results

Many apologies for the quiet over the last few months. Between work pressures and new computers things got a little out of hand, but I think (hope?) they're back in control now.

We've deliberated over the results, and decided that with entries in the main events at or below the 30 mark in each age group we would not be splitting those competitions into 'Elite' and 'Ordinary' Leagues as the resulting sections would be too small. However, with a large field in the Sporter event we have applied the principal there. The final results have been posted and are available here.

Well done to everyone who took part, medals will be dispatched as soon as they are available.

February's Postal Results

Well, quite a few tussles are building up, with more cracking scores coming in. Oliver Pomeroy of Fiennes ESU is worthy of note having still only dropped 8 points in the rifle. It's good to see Liphook names approaching the top of the list too.
No 50's scored yet, but with 49's from Oliver Pomeroy, Michael Bamsey and James Wellsted it's only a matter of time.....
See where you've come here

It is with great sadness that we must announce the passing of Dave Evans after a short illness. A great and generous man he was devoted to the development of young people, especially in target shooting. He has been our chairman ever since he founded the rifle club and was the driving force behind the many successes our youngsters have achieved.

He will leave a great gap in our lives, but our thoughts are with Wendy, Jeremy, Tracy and Phil.

HSRC Clay Shoot 2008

We are once more grateful to RAF Odiham Clay Club for hosting the annual HSRC Clay Shoot on Saturday. A great morning was had by all despite the monsoon like conditions. Yet again, Jordan Pirt has kept Liphook in the news, winning Gold in the junior section, with Jordan Hobday and Alex Cranstone of Fleet Sea Scouts winning a more than creditable silver and bronze on their first try at the sport.

Full results may be found here, and pictures may be found in the photo gallery.

1st Liphook Scout Rifle Club Postal Competition 2009

Back by popular demand is the Liphook Postal.

For those that did well at the Nationals this weekend, this is your chance to confirm your prowess - for those that were less successful this is your chance to redress the balance!

The top scores in each age group in the main competition will be classified as ‘Elite’ as this then divides the competition into two therefore promoting lower scores into medal positions too. So no one should be discouraged from entering.

Interested? Download this entry form and return to
Dave Evans, 84 Longmoor Road, Liphook, Hampshire GU30 7NZ

Good shooting to all entrants

Monday, June 16, 2008

Well here we are at the end of the Shoot, Well done to everybody who has taken part. So here is what you have been waiting for the final results.

What a tussle between Sam Lefevre and Jordan Pirt in rifle and pistol, watch these lads for the future. And then how about the rifle scores for Martin Oakes with all those 50's has he got a radar gunsight fitted to his head?.  Robert Alderman's pistol shooting has taken a leap forward with a well deserved win in Senior pistol. Andrew Brookes takes Adult rifle and leads a superb team from Fiennes Esu, well done Andrew. Andrew also shares honours with Reg Lefevre for adult pistol, while my tussle with Simon Welstead in adult pistol shows that us rotten shots still can have fun ( He beat me by one point!) I won't leave out the ladies as Jade Lefevre and Katherine Maskell shot so well and deserve the medals. James Welstead left the field standing to win the Sporter Class (Better than his dad).

I will be sending out the medals by post shortly, if I do not see you at the field shoot or a squad weekend.

Hope you all enjoyed the competition and hope you all will enter again next year (Entries will be out for the Nationals in October)

February Postal Results

Where is the time going? Here we are in the middle of March all ready, it doesn’t seem two minutes since Christmas and the start of the postal comp. But here are the results for February.

If you are looking for something a bit different come and compete in the Hampshire Scout Rifle Clubs Field Shoot (Sunday 29th June), make a weekend of it by camping Saturday and then shooting on Sunday. If you camp you will be able to have some practice later on Saturday. Go to www.dohoo.clara.net/hsrc/ for entry form.

Sporter Shooters, did you know that there is a web site just for you? Go to www.sporter.org.uk for loads of info.

News Letter

Hi All,        A few lines to keep you up to date with all thats going on in and around the Club.

Robert Hyndman has been selected to shoot for the under 19's GB Fullbore Squad, brilliant effort on his part. Lots of luck in the competitions this summer.

RobH together with Robert Alderman and me (davee) are currenly shooting a .22 rimfire competition called the Jean Allwright, this a knockout comp and we have just shot the quarter finals, as both Robs shot out of their skins we stand a good chance of going on!

I suprisingly have won the Basingstoke Rifle Clubs knockout comp, much to my surprise.

A bigger surpise was for David Alderman after he entered a competition in Sporting Gun to win a Browning Cynergy Black-Ice 12 bore shotgun worth £1800.oo when he had a call to say he had won the shotgun!
He went of to a presentation and photo shoot for the magazine, watch out for the photo's. See attachment for a piccy.

Last Friday we ran a air rifle shooting evening for the Petersfield Scouts, twentyone Scouts, most shooting for the first time had a busy evening shooting and completing go carts for a run down Butser Hill (keep an eye on the local papers for the calsuaty figures) Many thanks to all that helped me particularly Gareth Abbout.

The following day we hosted a Challenge Match with 9th Bramshill Scout Rifle Club. Sad to say we lost but will do better on the return leg shortly. Jordan Pirt shot well in rifle and very well in pistol winning silver in rifle and gold in pistol. Garreth also pulled out the plug to win senoir rifle and come second in pistol. Ashley held us oldies up with a bronze for rifle.
A super afternoon much enjoyed by both clubs.
Again many thanks to the team for all their hard work to make the event a success.

davee

The 2008 Liphook Postal Competition

This postal competition earlier this year was a resounding success, so we're doing it again for 2008. New for 2008 is the Sporter Air Rifle  (SAR) Competition. We will again be dividing each discipline into a Standard and an Elite Class, so everyone from the experienced shooter to the novice has a chance to win those coveted medals.
Download the entry form here, entries close 15th December

HSRC Field Shoot

As in previous years Liphook hosted the Field Shoot on behalf of Hampshire Scout Rifle Club today. A fun time was had by all and no rain (though we did hear the odd clap of thunder). I think every group attending has taken at least one medal home with them. Full results can be found here and pictures should be available shortly.

Liphook Postal Competition Over

Well would you believe that five months could go by so quickly! The competition is over! Well done everybody for shooting your cards and getting them in on time, I hope you have been following the results on our web site. You can see all the results as you read this.
We made a decision to add in the Elite Class to make sure that more riflemen (ladies) or should I say rifle persons and pistoleers (hope that gets everybody) has a better chance of winning a medal.
There are a lot of very close scores deciding several of the classes, each competitor is to be congratulated on their efforts and skill. Martin Oakes 2x50 and Oliver Welch 1x50 showed just how good Fiennes Esu, are with the highest medal awards.
The medals will be posted out within the next few days, I will send them by post to your leaders for presentation at your range.
I hope you all enjoyed the competition and will want to enter the next one. We will publish on our web site the entry form for 2008, in time for the Scout National Rifle Championship in October.
Don’t miss the Hampshire Field Shoot 15th July 2007 entry form on the Hampshire Rifle club web site.

See you all at the Nationals

Good shooting

Latest Postal Results Posted

The March results have now been posted on our competitions page. Apologies to those who thought February's results had not been posted last month - the results were uploaded and were visible on the site, but the tragic death of our GSL rather overtook the update of the front page. Andy will be sorely missed.

One small request to those who actually do the posting to us. Please remember that the Royal Mail now have a scale of charges based on size as well as weight. Poor old Dave keeps having to stroll off down to the Post Office and fork out for the excess postage due. The Royal mail have published their rates on their web site - their second class rates are here, and if you've left it till the last minute here are their 'first' class rates, or you can find an explanation of the Royal Mail's formats here. Your cards will normally come within the scope of their 'Large Letter' format, but folding them in half may bring them into the scope of their 'Standard Letter' format, provided you don't exceed the 5mm thickeness limit.

One month in to the postal

We're one month into the postal and Dave has done a stirling job scoring all the cards and entering them on our spreadsheet. January's results have now been published and you can see the product of your efforts (and Dave's) on our competitions page. It looks like there's going to be some pretty close competition in the coming months, particularly in the Adult Rifle!

Don't forget to write your full name, your group/troop/unit etc, and the month clearly on each card (these details must be the same as on your original entry form). It's a good idea to make a note of your estimated score, but please do not put any scores or other extra marks on the card, and no holes are to be guaged.

Good shooting,
Scrolin

The Liphook postal has started. The entry list is now closed and has been posted on our Competitions page. Hopefully we′ve recorded your details correctly, but please check here. We′ve entrants from as far afield as Kent, Devon, Pembrokeshire and Cheshire so it should be a great competition. Remember that your cards must reach us by the last day of the month. Late cards will not be entered so don′t leave it till the last minute! Good shooting to you all.

Yet another member training with the National Squad

Liphook has increased it's representation at the regular National Squad training weekends. Robert Hyndman is the latest member of the Liphook Scout Rifle Club to join the elite group, bringing our total presence to 5. Since the majority of the 5 are called Robert, club members are now in danger of being known as 'Robs'!

Liphook helps Hampshire retain the Inter County Championship

Liphook Scout Rifle Club members Matt Carrig and Robert Alderman were part of the 6 man team that left Hampshire in the early hours of April 10th heading for the National Indoor Shooting Centre at Aldersley, Wolverhampton.

The morning was taken up with 10 metre air rifle, and at the lunch break Hampshire were in second place with a score of 933 to Cheshire's 938. In the afternoon the rifles were replaced by air pistols. In a tightly fought competition the lead swung regularly between Hampshire and Cheshire, with the final aggregate giving Hampshire a score of 1842, just 5 points clear of Cheshire.

Liphook brings home the metal again

We had another very successful outing to the Hampshire County Finals, bringing home medals in 3 of the 4 age categories. And, for once, the old codgers didn't have to bathe in the youngsters glory.

The under 14's gave us our largest haul with Robert Alderman winning Silver in both the Rifle and Pistol disciplines and winning Gold on aggregate. He was joined by Robert Hyndman who won Bronze in the rifle, its really good to see a new name up there. As is usual these days, the under 18's produced the toughest opposition, but Pierre Reader won through in the rifle just clinching Gold on a tie break from Phil Hobbs of Bramshill ESU, and Matt Carrig won Bronze in both the pistol and aggregate competitions. I'm well chuffed too, having squeezed a Silver out of the adults' pistol.

So to sum up, that's 2 Gold, 3 Silver, and 3 Bronze - weyhey!

Another Member in the National Squad

We have just learnt that Robert Alderman, one of our youngest members, has been invited to become a provisional member of the Scouts National Rifle Squad. The invitation was made following Robert's excellent performance in the Nationals last month and in other competitions over the last year. With Matt Carrig, Pierre Reader, and Robert Chester all currently training with the squad, Liphook Rifle Club now has 4 current members permitted to wear the distinctive black sweatshirt bearing the Union Flag. Very well done Robert, it's well deserved.

28th National Scout Air Rifle Championships

The National Scout Air Rifle Championships has always had the synonym "Walton Firs" and that name will long be connected with the championships. It`s sad to leave but the future is bright for Scout shooting at Bisley, with the fantastic facilities available to us in the Lord Roberts Centre and the good offices of the National Smallbore Rifle Association together with the help of the National Rifle Association.

Many thanks to Bryan Jackson & Jasper Gooding for running the camp over the weekend and getting the lads to the right range at the right time.

With a reduced team plus Robert and Pierre moving up an age group we always would be hard pressed to repeat last year's success. But we didn't return empty handed, Robert Chester and Pierre Reader giving us a 1–2 in the Senior Own Rifle (recoiling) and Robert Alderman taking a silver in the Under 14's Six Yard Rifle. We were only a gnat's whisker from more metalwork too with Robert Alderman being squeezed out of the medals by one point on the tie break in the Junior Air Pistol and taking 2nd in the Ken White Trophy (a competitions that awards only Gold!)

Full details will appear in the next issue of DownRange to be published shortly. Pictures are available now in the Picture Gallery, or take a look at the full results on the HSRC web site.

The 29th Championships will take place at Bisley over the weekend of 14th — 16th October 2005.

3rd HSRC Clay Shoot

The HSRC Clay Shoot now seems confirmed as an annual event. We are again grateful to the RAF Odiham Clay Pigeon Club for putting on this event.

Charlotte Bain of Bishops Waltham took the Ladies Top Gun with a score of 18 while one of the juniors, Luke Mead of 9th Hallow, took the Mens Top Gun with a magnificent score of 20, the best score of the day.

Jasper Gooding kept the Liphook flag flying sharing Bronze with Meon Valley's John Saint in the senior competition.

Full results will be available soon on the HSRC web site. Unfortunately Scrolin forgot his camera that day so no pictures yet - if you have pictures we can use please let us know. Next year's event will take place on October 1st 2005.

2nd HSRC Field Shoot

Yet another event organised and run by Liphook Scout Rifle Club. Having had a successful first event last year we were "badgered" into putting on another. We were very lucky with the weather with reports of heavy rain all around us but the field stayed mercifully dry. Two new events were introduced this year, the long range event, and the snooker event, both of which proved very popular.

In the main event, Robert Chester and Alan Burgess won Gold and Silver respectively for Liphook in the Junior section - we came close to a clean sweep here with Toby Galtress taking part in the shootoff for Bronze. Matt Carrig won us the Bronze in the Seniors.

We had little joy in the own rifle, with our friends from Yateley, Meon Valley and Harrow pushing us well down the table. That said, Robert Hyndman and Robert Alderman would have won Gold and Silver if the event had been split into age groups, perhaps next year?

Rebeka Pidgley of Meon Valley put on a masterful performance using iron sights in the long range against everybody else's diopters and scopes. Her Gold is well deserved. Liphook shooters Matt Carrig, Alan Burgess, Toby Galtress, Robert Hyndman and Robert Alderman were all well up the table beating many National Squad members.

The Snooker event was introduced as a competitive fun event. Pierre Reader and Matt Carrig took 2nd and 3rd place, shame there was only hardware for 1st. Other Liphook shooters also figured highly in the results. I foresee this event being fiercely contended in the future as shooters begin to appreciate the tactical element it includes.

Full results are available under the 'Competitions' link in the menu, or follow this link.

Entry this year was down from approximately 65 to 50. We have put this down to the earlier date & will be returning to the first weekend in July next year. The field is booked, put it in your diaries now - Saturday & Sunday 2nd & 3rd July.

Petersfield District Shooting Competition

Liphook Scout Rifle Club organised and ran the Petersfield District Shooting Competition. 21 competitors from all over the district took part in competitions in the 3 disciplines of 6 yard air rifle, 10 metre air rifle, and 6 yard air pistol, firing approximately 800 pellets at 160 target cards.

Given Liphook's recent achievements it was no surprise that we featured very strongly in the results, but Petersfield and Sheet scouts still managed 6 podiums and can proudly boast that they have left us no room for complacency. Robert Alderman achieved a very commendable hat-trick taking first place in his age group in all 3 disciplines. The adults were soundly beaten by the youngsters, only holding their own in the pistol discipline - Matt Carrig and Robert Alderman took the shields for highest score of the day in 6 yard and 10 metre air rifle respectively, in each case about 10 points clear of the nearest adult! Matt and Robert were 'neck and neck' in the pistol with with Matt taking the shield for highest (youngster's) score by dint of the tiebreak. Full results are available here. We are all set up now for our next event, the HSRC Field Shoot on June 20th, if you haven't entered yet do it now!
